St Benedict’s School in Ealing is an independent Catholic Benedictine co-educational school occupying a lovely site in Ealing, with outstanding sports’ facilities a mile away. St Benedict’s is a school rich in tradition and yet one which embraces change to ensure it remains at the forefront of education in the twenty-first century. The school is committed to supporting all children to develop their full potential and has a proud academic record including Oxford and Cambridge entry. Its mission, ‘Teaching a way of living’, defines it as a Benedictine school. However, the School welcomes pupils of other denominations and faiths.
The Junior School and Nursery provide a supportive, friendly and vibrant co- educational environment. Your child’s educational journey begins and the seeds of our Benedictine ethos are planted, nurtured and given every opportunity to flourish. In the Nursery a carefully planned and child-centred programme enables and extends learning and development. Play underpins all activity as your child is gently prepared for the more formal educational setting of the Junior School.
The Junior School provides a broad and balanced curriculum based on a rigorous academic core and with extensive opportunities in music, art, sport and drama. Sharing excellent facilities with the Senior School and participating in cross-curricular activities helps ease the transition at 11+.
In the Senior School pupils are encouraged to think and express themselves creatively, to work independently, to take pride in all their achievements and to enjoy the rewards that scholarship brings. Sixth Form students are encouraged to take on leadership roles and all contribute to a variety of projects, which raise funds for communities across the world.
The main sports for boys are rugby and cricket, and for girls netball and rounders. Fencing is growing in popularity and swimming, tennis and other options are also available, with hockey soon to be introduced. The School’s sports ground at Perivale boasts 14 acres of playing fields, supplemented by a magnificent pavilion opened in 2005 and a full size all-weather hockey pitch. St Benedict’s enjoys a national reputation for rugby.
In the past five years there has been huge investment in computer technology, science lab refurbishment and the building of an extension to the junior school. On top of this comes the new £6.2 million Cloisters complex, opened in October 2008, which connects the school across three levels and provides excellent facilities for music and modern languages, a central multi-purpose hall, a chapel and 14 extra classrooms.
A rich and varied co-curricular programme is offered. The Junior School runs a ‘Hobbies’ programme each evening, while in the Senior School there are more than 70 clubs and societies. Numerous excursions are undertaken to places of interest in London, around the country and abroad. The School has a strong tradition in drama and music, with regular productions and concerts.
St Benedict’s is proud of its uniqueness. Come and visit for yourself and see the many opportunities available. You can be sure of a warm Benedictine welcome.
